So let me get this straight...  We have to donate each month to use and continue to use the donation feature?

I believe so, I hope they continue to develop VIP only features which will allow the bot to continue being improved and updated into the future.

Not sure about the sub notification, you might have to be logged into a partnered account first then click the little tool bar icon, is it grayed out? As for the Donation Notification check this thread: http://deepbot.deep.sg/forums/index.php?topic=408.0
