Follow message chat spam

After using a command, the bot spammed the chat a few times with the new follower message 4-5 times.

Did I set something up wrong? I don't want this to happen if there's a setting I can change.

Sorry - don't quite understand what you mean. Could you elaborate?

There is an option to activate follower messages in chat. However, if you get a lot of follows, it will get spammy, so this is mostly a useful feature for smaller streams with larger streams sticking to on-screen notifications only.

Sorry - it had sent more than 1 follow message for the last few followers that I'd gotten, and no one new followed to actually send the message, I was just checking points.
